The finishing department in a textile factory is in part equal in size or larger than the dye house. Most consumers of textiles know little or nothing about the textile finishing process, yet it is integral to the life of the fabric.
Heat Setting
This is a Heat treatment process that can be done on the 3 stages of fabric i:e gray, scoured and dyed fabric. During the heat setting process fabric is passed through the pre-heated chambers which are set at certainly high temperature and fabric is passed at a steady speed.
Heat-setting is a treatment by which shape retention, crease resistance, resilience and elasticity are imparted to the fabric. It also bring changes in strength, stretch ability, softness and dyeability of the fabric.
Compacting
This process is generally done to control the shrinkage of the fabric. It is done by passing the fabric between the drum(steam heated cylinder) and the pressure roll. The shrinkage required is mechanically given by two consecutive endless felts using high temperature and steam pressure.
Raising
A finishing process that raises the surface fibers of fabric by using rapidly revolving cylinders converged with metal points. Raising produces a hairy surface providing softer, fuller and bulkier feel to the fabric.
Tumble Drying
Drying of water in a cylindrical chamber which blows the hot air through holes.
